Electric inboard propulsion

Zen 24 is installed with an inboard or an outboard electric propulsion system. The Zen 24 can also be ordered with an outboard motor of any type.

Sailing an electric boat is a wonderful experience. When under power there is no noise or fumes. The electric motor is very powerful and can easily propel the Zen24 at hull speed, to manuever around the dock with ease. No more worries about fuel and oil and combustion engine maintenance. Electric propulsion systems are very reliable and easy to maintain. The Asmo Marine Thoosa system’s batteries can be charged at the dock or even while under sailpower, as the  motor acts as a generator and can regenerate power to replenish the batteries.

The electric auxiliary Zen 24 is truly in harmony with nature and the experience of sailing zen may change the way you think about sailing.

Zen 24 Hydro-dynamic performance

There is a great difference in sailboat performance. Some may look similar, but they all have different sailing characteristics.

Some sailboats are fast or slow, stable or unsteady at  the helm, tender or stiff and these characteristics become most evident in heavy conditions.

The Zen 24 realizes this integration with a new approach to hydro-dynamic hull design. As a result you feel smooth and easy sailing and you will enjoy sailing the Zen 24!

Zen 24 History

Yoh Aoki completed a solo sailing voyage around the globe departing from Osaka, Japan in 1971 and sailed home in 1974. He built by himself the 21 foot sailboat using plywood. This was the origin of the idea for a Zen boat.

The first model of the Zen 24 was made of wood and two of them, Hyakki-maru and Kibou-gou already have succeeded in circumnavigating the globe. Now built of fiberglass, many are being sailed around Japan.

The Zen 24 has been upgraded for the US market with the installation of an inboard electric motor, a redesigned cabin and a more comfortable cockpit, which makes the boat ready to please sailors around the world.
